What is unclaimed property?
Businesses and organizations are required by law to review their records and attempt to contact the owner of the property when it appears to be abandoned. Property is considered unclaimed if it is being held by a business or organization that has not had contact with the owner for a specific number of years. If the owner doesn't respond, the property is considered abandoned. This can be in the form of but not limited to, unclaimed dividends, unclaimed payroll, and aged funds on account.
